Supporting Diverse Learners.
Upskill has an open door policy and aims to provide support for students across the whole school in a variety of ways, depending on their individual needs. Our aim is to support students towards achieving their NCEA goals, but also to promote tools for self-management and organisation as students prepare for transition to further study or the workplace. Upskill can also be selected as one of your five specialist subjects, but with discussion and negotiation with teachers and whanau.
The Upskill team at ASHS liaises with external agencies (including Northern Health School) and transition services where appropriate. Our students with ORS (Ongoing Resourcing Scheme) or ICS (In-Class Support) status are supported by our team of Learning Support Assistants who work closely with subject teachers to include students in specialist subject classes.
Students with learning challenges or ongoing medical conditions may qualify for Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) to receive accommodations for NCEA exams. These students are assessed by teachers in Upskill who then seek approval by NZQA for SAC where appropriate. Subsequent requests for a reader and/or writer can be made by contacting the team in Upskill.
