MAP – My Academic Plan
Every ākonga has a plan which is negotiated with the Tutor teacher. The plan sets out the expectations for the ākonga, for the year.
There are 3 types of MAPs:
- MAP – for ākonga who quite clearly will gain the required number of credits – the negotiation here is on merit and excellence endorsement.
- ASMAP – for ākonga who can gain the required number of credits, but who will need extra assistance to do so.
- MYMAP – for ākonga who will not gain the required credits in the particular year, but will negotiate with their tutor and whānau a broader plan which will empower them to gain Level 1 or Level 2 by the end of the following year.
These MAPs require ongoing vigilance from the tutors. With 15-18 students in each Tutorial group and with 100 minutes twice a week, there is opportunity for individual negotiating, planning and monitoring. The aim is that there should be no surprises at the end of the year for anyone – of course, the main aim is that every ākonga finds the success that they should!
