Resporting absences, a message from the nurse and RSVP for the ASHS Whānau Food Truck Evening!
Kia ora e te whānau,
Firstly, if you no longer have a young person at ASHS and therefore no longer wish to receive these updates, you can unsubscribe by hitting the link at the bottom of this newsletter!
Thank you for your support over the last few weeks. We have seen a marked increase in attendance and young people are enaged in their learning. Please see below about our ASHS Whānau Food Truck Evening for 2025. We would love to see you there!

General Absence Processes
As you will know we are working hard to stamp out unexplained and unjustified absences. To ensure our attendance is recorded correctly it is important we have communication from you if your young person is ever away from school.
To notify late arrival, early departure or all day absence for your young person use the Parent portal. This is available through a browser on your mobile device or laptop/desktop computer.
Please endeavor to notify before 9.30am if possible, so the attendance can be recorded accurately for your young person.

Communication to Students Regarding Signing Out for Medical Reasons
If students feel unwell or have an injury during the school day, they must visit the school nurse at the health centre.
- The nurse will assess the student and determine appropriate treatment or management.
- If the nurse decides the student should go home, they will contact the parent/caregiver directly.
- Students must not contact their parent/caregiver unless directed by the nurse. (As phones should be away during the school day, this should not be an issue!)
- Students who need to go home will be given an orange slip to sign out for medical reasons.
Information for Parents
ASHS is fortunate to have two experienced registered nurses on staff who are available to manage student health and wellbeing during the school day.
- If a student feels unwell or has an injury during the school day, they must visit the school nurse at the health centre.
- The nurse will assess the student and, where appropriate, provide treatment to allow them to remain at school.
- This approach aligns with the school’s policy on attendance and participation.
- If a student needs to go home, the nurse will contact the parent/caregiver directly.
- Rest assured, if a student is too unwell to stay at school, they will be sent home following the above process.
- If a parent receives a message from their child saying they feel unwell, they should advise them to visit the nurse for assessment as above and await further communication the nurse.
