Welcome to the 2025 school year!
Kia ora e te whānau,
Welcome to the first newsletter of 2025! We have had a wonderful first few days with our young people and look forward to the weeks ahead. A reminder that the school is closed tomorrow for Waitangi Day, but will be open for learning on Friday.

Acing attendance at ASHS
This year we are increasing our focus on driving down ‘unjustified absences’ and reiterating to students the importance of attending every lesson, every day. You should now be receiving regular updates regarding your young person’s attendance and will recieve a text if they are ever marked absent. Please support this initiative and make sure you have a close read of our ‘Acing attendance at ASHS’ strategy and support your young person to be in class, on time, all the time. Thank you!

Cellphone policy at ASHS
This is the second year of enforcing the national cellphone ban at ASHS. Please support your young person in understanding that whilst they are welcome to bring their cellphone to school, that they are expected to have them ‘off and away’ throughout the school day, unless they have been asked by the teacher to use them for learning. We recognise they may need to quickly check their phones at break time but this should be kept to a minimum. Please also assist us by keeping communication via cellphone to a minimum between the hours of 9.00am to 3.10pm.
ASHS Whānau Food Truck Evening
This year we see the return of the ASHS Whānau Foodtruck Evening. This is an informal gathering for students, staff and whānau to come together for conversations and kai. We would love to see you there!
