ASHS UPDATE

Cell phone ban reminder, early finish next Thursday and Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisite info

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back to Term Two. It is crazy to think we are already one third of the way through the academic year for our seniors. As we head in to the Winter months we remind you to prioritise the health of your young people. It is important that we do encourage all students to attend school every day but recognise that it us important that students do stay home if unwell. Please see the Ministry of education website for updated advice about when to attend and when to stay home.

Cell Phone Ban – now compulsory for all schools
Just a reminder that cell phones are now banned in all schools throughout the day, unless they are being used, with the permission of teachers, for learning. Please note that this means you cannot expect your young people to receive or respond to text messages throughout the school day. We suggest that you email students via their school email and if there is anything urgent to contact the school reception.

PPTA PUM – School end at 12.40 on Thursday 16th May
Next Thursday is a regional paid union meeting for members of the PPTA. This means that school will finish after Period Two at 12.40.

Literacy & Numeracy Co-requisite exams – Opportunity 1
Earlier this year we communicated with the whānau of students who are yet to achieve in the Co-requisite Literacy and/or Numeracy national assessment.
The first opportunity to re-sit this exam is in late May.  In the next week we will be communicating directly with those students and their whānau who have demonstrated readiness to attempt the digital exam.  The primary focus for this session will be our Year 12 and Year 13 students along with our English as a second language students.

All other students will continue to be supported in preparation for sitting the co-requisite in the second opportunity. The second offering of the co-requisite exams will be in September during our NCEA preliminary exam block.
