The Journey so far...
The first 'home' for Albany Senior High School was 2 small rooms at North Harbour Stadium.
The school quickly out grew these premises when the three Deputy Principals, Colleen Maguiness, Miranda Makin and Mark Osborne were appointed in February 2008. They were joined by the Principal's PA, Kim Kindley in March.
Timeline of the development of the school:
With space at a premium it was time to follow in the footsteps of the original Albany Primary School and set up school in a house. 73 Fairview Avenue became the school's address. The Business Manager, Christine Routledge, joined the staff in June 2008 and the house became a hive of industry as the team of 6 got down to the job of setting up a senior high school. In August 2008 Albany Senior High School accepted enrolments for 2009. The first person to enrol was Ari Vlaanderen.
The teaching staff was appointed in October 2008.
Once again the school had out grown its premises and it was very fortunate the initial campus on the corner of Oakway Drive and Albany Highway was sufficiently completed for us to take part ownership of in November 2008.
.On Tuesday 3 February Albany Senior High School was opened for instruction with 237 students. John Marsden, our Kaumatua, officiated at the Powhiri to welcome these students to their new school.
On Wednesday 4 February 2009 Albany Senior High School was officially opened by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Hon John Key.
The school celebrated in the time honoured way....with cake.
