Purpose

To provide valuable, real world learning for our students as they challenge themselves and others to achieve their personal best, demonstrate fair play ethics, accept responsibility and develop their leadership and interpersonal skills. Participation in sports and physical activity enhances students' physical, social and mental well-being.

Objectives

  • To ensure that a wide range of sport and physical activity opportunities are offered to all students that result in high levels of participation.
  • To promote excellence and high achievement in sports.
  • To build on the energy, dedication and expertise of students, parents and staff as we establish the foundations for partnership that will continue to sustain the development of sports in our school community.
  • To ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities and rights of all those involved in sports.
  • To develop a commitment to personal responsibility, school and community.

Basketball

Joe Hope-Powell's North Habour team competed in the BBNZ U17 National Tournament in Palmerson North during Queen's Birthday weekend. The team had a great competition and placed 3rd overall. Well done Joe!

Mountain Biking

Corey Penney has recently been competiting in a lot of mountain biking events and gaining great results! He won the Auckland Championships, came 2nd in the R 'n' R Sport Cross Country Championships and came 3rd in the National Competition held in Levin during the school holidays! Awesome work Corey!

Basketball

Joe Hope-Powell plays basketball for North Harbour. His team won the Premiership competition in Whangarei on 28/29th March. The team now heads to the BBNZ Nationals in June. He also competed in the Norwood Easter Tournament in Adelaide.

Hockey

Janie Patroni has been named in the North Harbour U16 A team for 2009. She is the team goalie. Trials were demanding, however Janie kept her cool and showed selectors why she was the best goalie there.

Athletics

Cole Crockford is 4th in the North Island at High Jump in the Intermediate Boys age group! Cole attended the North Island Championships in Wellington on the 4th and 5th of April. For more athletics results please see the "Athletics" page.

Petanque

On Friday 27th March 6 students attended the All Schools Petanque Tournamnet at Herne Bay Petanque Club. Team 1 included Ashley Coetzer, Abbie Wakelin and Arno Retief. In team 2 were Brittany Perry, Maegan Fromont and Kate Neil. All involved had a great day learning the rules and tricks to the game of petanque. All players improved immensely throughout the day. Team 1 even came away with a silver medal in the D grade! This was a great result as there were 62 teams competing.

Clay Shooting

Dylan Townshend attended the Clay shooting Nationals in Thames Valley earlier in the year. He has now qualified for the NZ Junior squad of 9. Of these 9 clay shooters 6 will attend the world champs in Melbourne this year. Good luck Dylan!

Rowing

Ethan Alcorn qualified for the Westlake Boys Rowing Regatta held at Lake Pupuke earlier in the year. This is a great achievement for Ethan as he has only been rowing for a short time. He competed with students from Rangitoto College in the 4's and quads. His singles race was unfortunately cancelled due to rough weather conditions.

Judo

At the beginning of this year two students, Alex Bishop and Hannah Downing, attended the ACT Canberra Open in Australia. Alex  placed 3rd in the U16 U68kg category and competed in the U20 U68kg category. Hannah received two gold medals! This was in the U16 and U20 U48kg categories. She also placed 2nd in the senior U48kg category. Both students belong to the Nippon Judo Schools club. Well done!
